Log Message:
Began work on unit tests for "assembly events".  Fixed yet another
recursion bug in the assembly events mechanism.  I'll be glad when we have
a comprehensive test suite for this.  The mechanism is simple enough in
principle, but implementing it in a way that doesn't infinitely recurse is
rather difficult.
