[13:42:45] About a dozen hackers were there, all Python users, many Twisted users. [13:42:54] Everyone who had Mac OS 10.5 encountered this problem with easy_installing: [13:42:55] http://allmydata.org/trac/tahoe/ticket/212 [13:43:00] All two people that is. [13:46:04] ** apoirier has left IRC ("KVIrc 3.2.6 Anomalies http://www.kvirc.net/") [14:00:10] Sorry, zooko, I don't see much I can do with just that info, especially since I don't have a Mac available at the moment [14:13:06] Shall I post a report to distutils-sig? [14:13:16] My guess is that somebody thinks that a [14:14:08] "macosx-10.3-fat.egg" is incompatible with the current platform, when that platform is Mac OS 10.5. [14:14:12] But it works on 10.4. [14:14:40] There's also the surprising behavior of what happens if you tell it to easy_install a specific .egg. [14:14:48] Well, is easy_install noticing the egg is even there? [14:14:51] It completely and successfully installs the software from the .egg, [14:15:00] then it says "satisyfing dependencies for simplejson" [14:15:08] Then it downloads the simplejson .tar.gz and fails to install it. :-) [14:15:19] Leaving simplejson correctly installed, but causing that install process to abort. [14:15:27] Yes, it lists the .egg among the options [14:15:45] both when you give it the .egg as an argument and also when it discovers it by examining a web page e.g. pypi. [14:15:50] But then it passes over it and tries the .tar.gz. [14:15:56] On Mac OS 10.5, but not on !0.4. [14:16:17] Hrm. I would bring it to the Mac SIG then... [14:16:43] I should post to the Mac SIG mailing list? [14:16:56] I'm guessing it's an issue with the pkg_resources code for version compatibility checking [14:17:04] which reads /usr/bin/sw_vers [14:17:35] (ie. that's where the version specificity comes in) [14:17:39] Okay, thanks for the hints. [14:18:02] The OSX platform versioning code was contributed, so I don't know a whole lot about it [14:54:11] Okay, thanks. I've mailed the PythonMac SIG list.
