[03:16:35] [Global Notice] Hi all. It appears likely that you can prevent the DCC exploit from working by connecting to us via port 8001 rather than port 6667 .... please try it if you've been getting caught by the DCC exploit .... please try it and let me or freenode first level support ( http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#gettinghelp ) know how it works. [03:18:01] [Global Notice] Also, to those of you who have been using the keylogger or DCC exploits: it's extremely annoying to the people on the channels you do it on. This is freenode, folks, we really do expect better from you. Please remember. [04:02:44] [connected at Sat Mar 4 04:02:44 2006] [04:02:44] <> *** Looking up your hostname... Welcome back. This was not, repeat, not, a denial of service attack. 8) What we just experienced was a problem relating to versioning on a network utility script. We don't expect it to recur any time in the forseeable future. 8) Apologies for the inconvenience. [18:17:46] [Global Notice] We're getting everything back up and we should be restored to normal operation in just a few minutes. Thanks for your patience and understanding, and thank you for using freenode! [21:30:09] [Global Notice] Hi all. Another note on the DCC exploit....we now have two known ways to avoid the problem. First, as stated before, you can connect to freenode via port 8001 instead of 6667. Second, you can turn off SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) in the router configuration. Thanks!
